I am a political theorist specializing in normative political theory and currently working as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Political Science at Duke Kunshan University. I received my Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University. My research focuses on the ethics of victimhood and resistance, democratic theory, the politics of emotion, meritocracy, and hate speech and counter-speech.
My book project develops a normative political theory of why and how individuals should engage ethically with victimhood under conditions of systemic oppression. It argues that victimhood can be a valuable resource for resisting oppression and examines the moral and political responsibilities of oppressed individuals as they navigate their experiences of victimization as political agents. My work has appeared in the European Journal of Political Theory.
Before beginning my academic career, I earned a J.D., qualified as a lawyer in South Korea, and worked as a Junior Legal Officer at the International Labour Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. I have lived in five countries across three continents.
