I am a political theorist specializing in normative political theory and currently working as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Political Science at Duke Kunshan University. I received my Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University. My research focuses on victimhood, oppression, the ethics of resistance, epistemic democracy, the politics of emotion, hate speech and counter-speech, and meritocracy. Before pursuing an academic career, I trained as a lawyer in South Korea and worked as a Junior Legal Officer at the International Labour Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. I have lived in five countries across three continents.
My book project develops a normative theory of victimhood. I argue that victimhood, when engaged with ethically, can serve as a valuable resource for resisting oppression. This project offers a new framework for understanding this constructive potential and develops normative standards to guide both victims and non-victims as they navigate the politics of victimhood. An article drawn from this project has been published in the European Journal of Political Theory.
