I am a political theorist specializing in normative political theory and philosophy, currently serving as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Political Science at Duke Kunshan University. I hold a Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University. My research examines themes of victimhood, oppression, collective resistance, political emotions, political ethics, hate speech, and the concept of law. Trained as a lawyer in South Korea, I previously worked as a Junior Legal Officer at the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland, and have lived in five countries across three continents.
My book project develops a normative theory of victimhood politics, arguing that a sense of victimhood can serve as a crucial political resource for the oppressed. It offers a new framework for understanding this potential and proposes evaluative standards and normative guidelines for the ethical responsibilities of both victims and non-victims. An article from this project has been published in the European Journal of Political Theory.
